According to a study in Health Affairs, the cost per episode treated by nurse practitioners (NPs) in retail clinics was lower in states where NPs practice and prescribe independently. The authors state that eliminating restrictions on NP’s scope of practice “could have a large impact on the cost savings that can be achieved by retail clinics.” Read more.
