The Magnet Profiles section in this issue highlights various aspects of the Magnet Recognition Program® and provides information about specific Magnet facilities across the country. Magnet organizations are shining examples of nursing leadership and excellence in action.
The Magnet Recognition Program continues to grow. Today, more than 370 organizations across the country and four international entities have earned Magnet recognition—the “gold standard” for nursing excellence. Magnet organizations create and sustain a professional practice environment while promoting innovation and new knowledge to advance nursing practice. Nurses in Magnet organizations routinely have input into decisions affecting the work environment and are engaged with leadership to address strategic and quality planning. As visible leadership partners, their voices drive important priorities to improve care.
The Magnet model focuses on demonstrating the results of effective nursing leadership and exemplary practice that yield superior outcomes. Nurses use evidence to shape nursing practice and achieve better results—not just in patient care but also in nurse satisfaction. Magnet organizations guide others along the path to excellence while staying focused on improving their own practice environments.
Magnet recognition is an organizational achievement that reflects commitment and collaboration from every area of the organization. The excitement and pride of “Magnetism” draw others to these organizations, creating a robust workforce in which employees support each other and engage in true teamwork to achieve better patient outcomes and better staff retention.
