RACHEL BROWN*, a 74-year-old woman, is admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after a non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction. She’s on a heparin infusion. A cardiac catheterization the next day reveals significant vessel disease, including complete occlusion of the left main artery, a 90% blockage of the circumflex, and a 90% blockage of the first diagonal.
