New policy on disposing unused prescription drugs announced

On Sept. 8, the U.S. Department of Justice announced a new Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulation that will allow pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, and other authorized collectors to serve as authorized drop-off sites for unused prescription drugs. Long-term care facilities will also be able to collect controlled substances turned in by residents of those facilities. The changes are intended to help address the increased dangers of prescriptions drug misuse. Read more.
