Patient satisfaction now factors into Medicare reimbursement

Starting Oct. 1, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services began withholding hospital’s Medicare reimbursement based on their quality performance; 30% of the decision is derived from how well hospitals score on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, a measure of customer satisfaction.   • I was reading a blog post about medicare refurbishment and needed some background check and ended up here. One thing is not clear in your post. Since when patient satisfaction factors into medicare refurbishment.

  • I am trying to gain clear understanding of relationships between HCAHPS scores and reimbursement. Is the reimbursement 30% of 1% held for value based purchasing? What should those scores be? CMS benchmark scores?
