Patient/family/visitor “hot line” prevents medical errors

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has a “hot line” that patients, families, or visitors can call if they see something wrong and think staff isn’t responding appropriately. The person who answers the call collects pertinent information and triggers the response team: a physician, administrative nurse coordinator, floor nurse and patient relations coordinator. The hospital reports that 69% of the calls may have prevented errors. Read more.
