Should codeine be phased out?

An editorial in CMAJ, the journal of the Canadian Medical Association, raises concerns about a genetic variation and adverse effects from codeine and suggests it may be time to phase it out, especially for infants and children, who are at the highest risk, in favor of morphine, codeine’s active metabolite. Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children has already removed codeine from its formulary. Read more here.
