Study: Higher Hgb or receiving EPO doesn’t improve neuro outcomes in patients with TBI

In patients with a traumatic brain injury (TBI), the administration of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO) or maintaining a higher hemoglobin (Hgb) concentration through blood transfusion did not improve neurological outcome at 6 months, according to a study in JAMA. Transfusing at higher hemoglobin concentrations was associated with a higher risk of adverse events. Read more and read the study abstract.
